A Word From Andy

Hi Everyone,
Talk about an amazing month. I spent some time at TBEX (Travel Bloggers Exchange – a conference) hearing about the latest and greatest in online niche travel media. Travel bloggers are your friends – are you building relationships with influential bloggers?
After TBEX, I headed to upstate NY where I am now. I’ve been chatting with small business owners in all shapes and sizes – budding journalist, seasoned entrepreneurs and Main Street merchants. What I’m hearing:
- Thinking out of the box and taking some risks equals results.
- Old school marketing still works. This means combining old tactics with new technology.
- Tourism is hot, but so is the competition.
These aren’t new trends, but it’s fun to watch businesses who are making it work. Look at all of the businesses in Canandaigua, who band together to pass on referrals and repeat business. Look at the Erie Canal, who makes brochures you can clip onto your bike to go touring. Look at B&Bs who are adding extras and freebies.
What’s the bottom line? Go the extra mile – with marketing, with customer service, with better products/services, with a better experience – and get results.
All the best,
Andy
