I’m Andy Hayes, your friendly host, partner-in-crime, and go-to-guy here at Travel Online Partners, or TOP for short.
I’ve always loved small business – though oddly enough, I never got into the lemonade stand thing, as I grew up way out in the countryside, but I’ve authored a few travel guides, and even ran a few guided tours when I lived in Amsterdam! I really do think owning a business is the best thing since sliced bread, but damn it is hard work. My background before tourism was in software and technology, and then I drifted in the world of software marketing and process designs – making software that was both easy to use and that you got excited about using it.
Perhaps that’s why I’ve found a natural home here in the world of digital media, with an intense passion and knack for making websites work better. I spend a lot of time looking at the trends of online media, and I spend a lot of time watching what others are doing online, tinkering with my own digital experiments, to see what works, what’s hot, and what’s not.
I’ll be frank: the Internet has been a paradigm shift in the way that consumers research and purchase travel.
And sadly, I see so many small tourism businesses – work at home travel agents, independent tour operators, small hoteliers – who ignore it, or want to understand it but just can’t find their footing.
If that’s you, you’ll probably agree, promoting yourself online can be a bit tricky. No small business owner wants another job to do – but sometimes it feels like exactly that, because having a website is almost a job in itself.
Thankfully, I’ve have plenty of experience in web technology – over a decade – and together with my behind-the-scenes team of experts, we know how to improve the effectiveness of your website, whether that’s to sell more of your products, or just to get more people to signup for your newsletter.
